STARS CHEER AND DANCE TEAM
Peak Athletics Plus offers two Special Needs All-Star teams! The Stars have been an important part of the Peak program for many years. These teams are designed for athletes with physical and mental disabilities who are eager to participate in the fabulous worlds of cheerleading and dance. The Stars include athletes ranging from 8 to 25 years of age and are coached by members of Peak's elite coaching staff as well as volunteer assistants from the elite cheerleading and dance teams.
This year Peak is proud to announce its inaugural year of Dance Stars, the first Special Needs All-Star dance team in Colorado! The Cheer Stars began in 2003 and have since grown to 25 athletes from all over the Denver Metro Area. The Cheer Stars have been featured on many regional news stations and last season were featured in an NBC Nightly News report on Special Needs cheer teams.
The Stars perform regionally 4-6 times per year at most of the events in which the elite cheer and dance teams compete, sharing with the community their special style of cheering and dance! Every other year, the Cheer Stars perform nationally and have thus far performed three times at the UCA All-Star Nationals in Orlando, Florida. This spring they are looking forward to performing at the WSA Nationals in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Dance Stars are anxious to incorporate national performances into their schedule as their program continues to grow.
Through cheerleading and dance, the Stars athletes not only improve their skills physically, but socially and emotionally as well. Belonging to a team, having responsibility, and enjoying longlasting friendships prove to be just as important to the Stars and their families as the cheering and dancing itself. The Stars program gives these amazing young people the opportunity to be involved in something they would not otherwise be able to do. The energy and love that these athletes bring to cheerleading and dance is contagious and so we invite you to come watch one of our performances and feel the passion of the Peak Athletics Stars!
